Architecting IT for digital business.

Modernizing and optimizing your IT landscape is no longer an option. It is a mandate.

Disruptive market changes demand an agile infrastructure that enables innovation and speeds time to market.  But, speed and agility are often at odds with protecting the enterprise from service outages, compliance issues, and security exploits. And of course, doing more with less continues to be the expectation.

Consequently, Infrastructure and Operations (I & O) leaders are challenged to support growth and rapid innovation while constrained by budgets largely earmarked to support existing IT infrastructure that is not designed for speed and agility!

A radical new approach is required.  A different path forward that marries the traditional with the transformative.

Thank you for a great run. You and your team have a lot to be proud of. The commitment and experience you brought to the table absolutely contributed to the overall success of our program. It was a pleasure calling the DK Group our team members.”

Ready for Today. Prepared for Tomorrow.

David-Kenneth Group’s modernization and optimization framework employs a phased approach that moves the needle forward at a tempo that makes sense for your budget, timeline, and business objectives. A phased approach allows an organization to systematically adapt to change, tackling the most pressing issues today.  It preserves capital while ensuring service deliverability, compliance, and a robust security posture.

We provide the expertise for the technology, process and people areas of a modernization and optimization effort.  We specialize in these services:

Modernization and Optimization Strategy

How do we align technology and business requirements?

Can we get all stakeholders on the same page, fully supporting the transition and modernization/optimization investment?

What’s the magnitude of the investment? How long will it take? What resources are required?

To successfully execute a complex modernization or optimization effort, you need a strategy that aligns technology choices with business objectives. David-Kenneth Group’s business-centric process focuses on six key factors that will affect your strategy: Data Center Sourcing, Modernization/Optimization Planning, Application Rationalization and Workload Placement, Network Design, Cost Estimation, and Disaster Recovery.  The process produces consensus among stakeholders and minimizes internal conflicts.  It forms the basis for your business case and answers the big questions regarding investment, schedule, and resource requirements.

Services:

  • Strategic Planning Workshops

Audit IT Assets

Do we really know what’s in inventory?

Can we trust the CMDB?

Do we have a handle on future capacity requirements?

Having an up-to-date inventory via an IT asset audit is the foundation of a modernization and optimization initiative.  A trustworthy CMDB depends upon complete IT discovery.

Services:

  • Inventory Assets
  • CMDB Baseline & Refresh
  • Capacity Planning

Data Center Layout

How do I balance density and capacity?

How does my server architecture affect the design?

What’s the best way to reduce cooling and power?

Design follows function and is highly dependent upon business requirements. A smart layout results in operational efficiencies that translate into significant savings in power, cooling, and manpower.

Services:

  • Floor Plans
  • Rack Elevations
  • Patch Diagrams

Procurement Support

How can we stay on budget and deliver innovation that provides us with a competitive advantage?

I need to do more with less.  How do I find creative solutions and savings for my bottom line?

Modernizing and optimizing your IT landscape is not your everyday IT project. By definition, it touches mission critical IT assets. Optimizing acquisitions for the procurement team ensures that savings will be maximized and costly mistakes will be avoided.

David-Kenneth Group is vendor-independent. A posture that frees us to work with our clients’ vendors of choice.

Design and Deployment

Will my design be flexible enough to accommodate future technical and capacity requirements?

What is the division of labor between the David-Kenneth Group and my staff?

Your infrastructure should be designed to efficiently deliver critical business services and with enough flexibility to quickly adapt to changing business needs.  Good design considers performance, scalability, resiliency, security, compliance, sustainability, and future capacity requirements.

David-Kenneth Group specializes in architecting modernizations and optimizations of any scale.  David-Kenneth Group project managers, architects, and specialists are blended with your team based upon your resource constraints and project requirements.

Learning Center

Here are some common modernization and optimization terms and their definitions:
Data Center Modernization

The replacement of end-of-life data center infrastructure with the latest and more cost-effective infrastructure that lowers the cost of operations through better performance, efficiency, and security.

Data Center Transformation
The process by which an organization introduces new technology that modifies its processes, procedures, and technology infrastructure to improve functionality and performance for competitive advantage.
Digital Business

Digital business is defined by Gartner as the creation of new business designs that blur the digital and physical worlds. By 2021, they predict 43% of an enterprise’s revenues will be generated via digital transactions.

Software defined Data Center (SDDC)

A data center where all IT infrastructure is virtualized, delivered, configured, and controlled through software.  The common core components of a software defined data center are network, storage, and compute services that are administered programmatically.

Public Cloud

A type of cloud that delivers services to multiple organizations (tenants) based on a standard set of configurations, such as computer, storage, network, memory, operating systems, and applications made available by the service provider to the general public for consumption.  The public cloud is offered for free or on a pay-per-usage model.

Private Cloud

A type of cloud that delivers services to a single organization with similar advantages to a public cloud including on-demand self-service, broader network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured/metered services for chargeback. Private cloud is typically a custom, build-to-suit architecture solution.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

One of the three main types of cloud services that provide virtualized computing resources.

Platform as a Service (PaaS)

One of the three main types of cloud service that provides a platform for organizations to develop, manage, and run applications without the need to build-out and maintain the IT infrastructure.

Software as a Service (SaaS)

One of the three main types of cloud services that delivers applications to the end user via a subscription-based licensing and delivery model.
